Our Mission

The D.O.P.E. Program (Death or Prison Eventually) is a nonprofit multi-agency and community collaborative effort designed to quickly and dramatically reduce gun violence related homicides and sustain reductions of these incidents over time within the city of Akron, Ohio.

"A focused deterrent strategy committed to making our community safer."

"As founder and executive director of the D.O.P.E. program, we are committed to providing the necessary resources on behalf of the City to ensure the project's success. We work with law enforcement and community stakeholders, provide education, and seek feedback regarding violence in the community."

"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope" — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

About The Program

The D.O.P.E. program is a focused deterrent strategy that is modeled after the Boston gun project from the mid-1990s and the C.I.R.V. program which was created in 2012 in the city of Youngstown, Ohio. Our program represents a proven approach to reducing violent crime through data-driven operations targeting repeat violent offenders and individuals who are currently on probation or parole.

We collaborate with the City of Akron's Public Safety Strategist to provide connections for offices, departments, and services to implement the D.O.P.E. Call-in program for adult violent offenders. Through strategic partnerships and community engagement, we work together for the betterment of the City of Akron.

Data-Driven

Our operations are guided by comprehensive data analysis to target repeat violent offenders effectively.

Community Focused

We work collaboratively with community stakeholders, law enforcement, and local organizations.

Proven Strategy

Modeled after successful programs like the Boston gun project and C.I.R.V. program from Youngstown.
